SIGEP 2011´s new event for artisan ice cream is the SIGEP Gelato d´Oro Italian Ice Cream Grand Prix, a competition involving individual ice cream producers selected by the most renowned trade associations. The winner will be appointed captain of Italy´s 2012 World Cup team, responsible for the ice cream test.

The competition forms part of the path linked to the World Cup, organised by Rimini Fiera and CoGel Fipe-Confcommercio, an event that has generated considerable global interest. Each year there is an increase in the number of countries participating and the professional and technical preparation of teams that are called to perform ever more complex, demanding and spectacular tests. This dynamism is also reflected in the proliferation of the World Cup Club´s activity, present in various countries for enhancing the competition´s content and quality levels. The team selections for the 2012 Ice Cream World Cup will be held in some of these countries, at the same time as that of Italy.

Another new feature of great interest: the ‘ice cream is served´ test is an addition to the World Cup. Teams will be strengthened by the presence of a professional chef responsible for training a team capable of challenging competitors in an increasingly selective World Cup.
