Rimini, 21st December 2023 - Artisan gelato will be one of the leading protagonists of SIGEP - The Dolce world Expo. The event, organised by Italian Exhibition Group from 20th to 24th January 2024 at Rimini Expo Centre, will be dedicating no less than 12 halls, the Gelato Arena and the big new entry, the Gelato Lab, to the supply chain. Gelato will be the link between the supply chains attending the exhibition with events that will see both gelato makers and pastry chefs at work under the spotlights. A first-class training opportunity to appreciate the Masters at work and to enjoy a preview of the products and technologies used in processing. Space will also be given to sector trends, thanks to all the main reference associations in attendance: Artglace, Associazione Italiana Gelatieri, CNA, Confartigianato, Federazione Artigianale Gelatieri.

Gelato Arena
The Gelato Arena (Hall A5) is the beating heart of the area dedicated to the ´cold´ dolce foodservice industry. Over the five days, this important stage will see great Italian and international masters compete and compare notes to enhance artisan gelato, the true protagonist of the show, through two prestigious events: the Gelato World Cup and Sigep Gelato D´oro.
The Gelato World Cup is the world´s most important team competition that includes gelato, pastry, chocolate, catering and ice sculpture competitions with 11 teams participating from Argentina, Brazil, China, South Korea, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Hungary. During the three days of competitions (from Saturday 20th to Monday 22nd), two juries will decide: one consisting of team managers, in charge of assessing aesthetics, and one from the World Association of Chefs´ Societies (the global voice of culinary professionals with more than 240 associations of reference) which will, instead, decide on taste. The two jury presidents, namely Kenny Kong (Singapore Chef´s Association) and Martino Piccolo, a well-known Australian gelato maker, will also be newly appointed. Lastly, the winning team for the 2024 World Champion title will be decided during the competition.
Sigep Gelato D´Oro on the other hand, awards the best Italian gelato and pastry professionals competing in the second edition of the Gelato Europe Cup, scheduled at Sigep 2025. It will start on Tuesday 23rd with the gelato makers, already admitted from the pre-selections organised by sponsors Anselmi, Babbi and Carpigiani, while Wednesday 24th will be the turn of the pastry chefs.

Gelato Lab
The new entry for the 2024 edition is the Gelato Lab. Located in Hall A7, it is the beating heart of professional training in the gelato sector, offering courses, show cooking, presentations and high-level product demonstrations to stimulate and enable sector operators to enhance their skills. Numerous events and initiatives are scheduled for every day of the show.

• Saturday 20th January: Show cooking and talks organised by Vlabel, Associazione Italiana Gelatieri, Fic (Italian Chef´s Federation) and Confartigianato.

• Sunday 21st January: Gelato Festival World Master . European Challenge. The European leg of the Gelato Festival World Masters 2025 circuit, which will see fifteen gelato makers from the Old Continent participating.
• Monday 22nd January: the presentation of the Guida Gelaterie d´Italia (Italian Gelato Parlour Guide), organised by Gambero Rosso, which, once again, has chosen Sigep to announce the best artisan workshops in Italy. The book, now in its eighth edition, awards the Three Cones, the most coveted award for gelato parlours in Italy. Artglace will also be featured to celebrate European Artisan Gelato Day with a specific competition to promote the official flavour of 2024, which this year will be presented by Belgium, paying homage to the ÔGaufre de Liège´, a sweet wafer, crunchy on the outside and soft inside.
• Tuesday 23rd January: Show cooking and talks organised by Sigep´s most important partners. Through master pastry chefs Cristiano Gaggion and Alessandro del Trotti, Confartigianato will be presenting cross- contaminations between the world of gelato and pastry. Artglace will be awarding the Gusto Gelato day 2024, while the Associazione Italiana Gelatieri (Italian Gelato Makers´ Association) will be nominating the best gelato maker of the year. Lastly, Cna Agroalimentare will be awarding the association´s master gelato makers in 4 categories: Lifetime Achievement Award; Young Entrepreneur Award; Female Entrepreneur Award; Innovation Award. Space will also be given to talks organised by Pasticceria Internazionale.

• Wednesday 24th January: Masterclasses for students from hotel management institutes organised by Carpigiani University and Cast Alimenti. Confartigianato (with masters Massimo Peruzzi and Nicola Giotti) will be organising a delicious journey through spoon desserts, while the closing event will be the prize-giving ceremony for the ÔGelato on Canvas´ painting competition, open to all creative people over the age of 18, with an exhibition to be held from 20th to 24th in Hall A7 .
