SIGEP 2024: MAJOR INTERNATIONAL PASTRY COMPETITIONS

• The 45th edition of SIGEP . the Dolce World Expo from 20th to 24th January at Rimini Expo Centre

• The programme includes challenges between Italian Senior and Junior pastry chefs and the Junior World Championship

• The various nations´ Myths and Legends, the Orient and a Sustainable Future are the themes chosen for the 2024 dolce challenges

Rimini, 22nd December 2023 . At the 45th edition of SIGEP - the Dolce World Expo, the very best in pastry will be challenging each other in a tight calendar of competitions of national and international relevance to enhance the talents of the dolce foodservice art. The International Artisan Gelato, Pastry, Bakery and Coffee Show, organised by Italian Exhibition Group, to be held at Rimini Expo Centre from 20th to 24th January, in addition to unveiling new products, the most up-to-date market analyses, new machinery, accessories and market prospects, will also highlight the best Master artisans with a packed calendar of contests and competitions.

Thanks to collaboration with the sector´s leading artisan and industrial associations, Master pastry chefs and ITA - Italian Trade Agency, Sigep will host the industry´s supply chains in a layout occupying the entire Expo Centre. Three important talks dedicated to the world of pastry will be staged in Vision Plaza. On Sunday 21st, Iginio Massari will be curating the format ´Different visions, great ideas´, which will see top international Master Pastry Chefs, such as Pascal Lac, Rolf Muerner, Giancarlo Palazzone and Jacob Torreblanca, on the Sigep stage. This will be followed by a talk organised by Apei (Italian Pastry Ambassadors), the association whose president is Massari himself, in a discussion on ´Real pastry versus virtual pastry´. Monday 22nd will be the turn of Ampi (Academy of Italian Master Pastry Chefs), where the greatest Italian Masters will discuss various themes with sector experts from food/nutrition to market analysis and the big issue of communication.

In such a context, top national and international competitions, where pastry masters will be called upon to express all the excellence of their skills by drawing inspiration from various assigned themes, could not go amiss.
Below is a detailed look at the Sigep 2024 pastry competitions that will be taking place in the Pastry Arena (Hall B5), thanks to the contribution of various sponsors:

JUNIORES PASTRY WORLD CUP (22-23 JANUARY)

The Juniores Pastry World Cup is a globally unique team competition aimed at young, under-23 talents that offers a highly eductional opportunity to put their skills to the test. This year´s theme is ÔMyths and Legends´: enhancing the culture and history of a country through the pastry chefs´ creations of a national myth or legend. As many as 12 nations will be competing: Australia, Chile, the Philippines, France, Peru, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malta, the United States and Uzbekistan. Each team is made up of a team manager and two pastry chef contestants, who will have to compete in different tests: artistic presentation in chocolate and sugar, a modern chocolate cake, a typical street food dessert from their home country and a vegan sorbet glass. The international jury will be made up of the Team Managers of the 12 teams with Maestro Iginio Massari as President of Honour and Maestro Eugenio Morrone as President of the Jury. The President of the Competition will be Maestro Roberto Rinaldini.

ITALIAN PASTRY CHEF CHAMPIONSHIPS (20TH . 21ST JANUARY)
The Italian Pastry Chef Championships are specifically for the country´s most promising talents with prestigious juries that will include Masters from the APEI and Italian Pastry Ambassadors associations as well as from AMPI, the Association of Italian Master Pastry Chefs. The event is promoted by Conpait in collaboration with CAST Alimenti.

• JUNIORES (20TH JANUARY):
This one-of-a-kind competition is aimed at the Under-24s as their first major opportunity to start a successful career. Eight contestants will be competing while the theme of the competition is ÔA Sustainable Future´ with three specific competition rounds: artistic presentation in sugar, pastry or chocolate; single-portions and chocolates.

• SENIORES (21ST JANUARY):
The seniors´ competition will be along the same lines and is aimed at the Over-24s with 10 contestants competing on the theme ÔTravelling to the Orient´ undergoing two different tests: artistic presentation in sugar, pastry or chocolate and chocolate cake.

SIGEP GIOVANI (24TH JANUARY)
Last but not least, on the last day of the Show, the Pastry Arena will host Sigep Giovani, an initiative aimed at schools from all over Italy, organised in collaboration with Pasticceria Internazionale, to promote training and cultural exchange between students and professionals from the entire peninsula and the main islands. For the 2024 edition, the competition will see 15 hotel and catering schools challenge each other amid mini and chocolate tiered cakes that are able to enhance the territory they belong to.
