WILL SUPER-AUTOMATIC MACHINES REPLACE BARISTAS?

It’s not an idle question. Today’s machines are increasingly sophisticated, and in the case of the most advanced models, it’s artificial intelligence that controls the mechanisms and regulates the dispensing. As a result, the cup quality has become flawless, and super-automatic machines pose a daily challenge to baristas. But there’s more. A super-automatic machine was even chosen by the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) to steam milk for the competitors in the latte art competition. And what about traditional cafés? Abroad, many bars prominently feature super-automatic machines; in Italy, less so. But this is just the beginning. The increasingly widespread difficulty in finding staff might be the tipping point.
