Mintel analyses new foodservice trends in the US

SIGEP WORLD hosted the talk ‘Foodservice Consumer and Market Trends: Focus on the US’ conducted by Mintel. The meeting analysed the evolution of US consumer habits and priorities in the foodservice sector, with particular focus on the impact of inflationary pressures on the market.

 

 

According to Kantar Profiles/Mintel research conducted in October 2024, 50 per cent of respondents in the US choose to eat out to treat themselves, 46 per cent to enjoy a new experience, 38 per cent to save time and 31 per cent to take advantage of available offers.

 

This data offers important insights for foodservice companies, which according to Mintel can satisfy consumers' desire for “special treats” by offering dishes with seasonal ingredients and innovative combinations. In addition, reinventing formats, developing loyalty programmes and using gamification are key strategies for attracting new customers and retaining existing ones.

 

Particular emphasis should be placed on satisfying both the demand for traditional ‘sit-down’ meal experiences and the demand for convenient and quick options, a fast-growing trend especially among young people.
