The coffee sector invests in digitisation and technology

The coffee sector continues to tread the path of digitisation and technological innovation. According to recent data, 18% of B2B transactions in the ‘out of home’ sector take place via digital channels, with the coffee sector among the most technologically advanced. This trend was the focus of the talk ‘The future of coffee’ held today at SIGEP WORLD.

The panel of experts, which featured Mario Vicentini (Comunicaffè), Cosimo Libardo (Specialty Coffee Association), Paolo Andrigo (Accenture), Jacopo Bambini (Cimbali), Max Fabian (European Coffee Federation) and Arianna Mingardi (Amigos Caffè), analysed the sector's current challenges, including climate change reducing cultivable areas and economic instability caused by speculation, leading to a net loss of 10,000 coffee bars by 2024, according to FIPE data.

Special attention was given to Fully Automatic Coffee Machines, a selection of super-automatic coffee machines that are shaping the future of the industry. These tools, defined as crucial to cope with the increasing difficulty in finding personnel, offer consistent performance in coffee preparation, guaranteeing high quality in the cup, regardless of the human factor.

In an ever-changing economic environment, the adoption of new technologies appears crucial to sustain the competitiveness and growth of the coffee sector.
