Vincenzo La Monica triumphs in the Italian Pastry Championship

Vincenzo La Monica took the title in the Italian Pastry Championship, the competition held at SIGEP WORLD in collaboration with Conpait. The event saw the best Italian talents over 21 compete on the theme ‘Sustainable Cocoa: from bean to cake in a circular economy’.

 

 

La Monica, a 22-year-old from Venetico (Messina), prevailed over Francesco Marchitto, 25, from Bientina (Pisa), who came second, and Gianluca Schettino, 24, from Massa Lubrense (Naples), who took third place.

During the two days of competition (20 and 21 January), the eight contestants faced technical challenges that included making 15 chocolates, three chocolate cakes with the requirement to use crispy cooked meringue, and an artistic sugar sculpture.
